Joe Wilson is one of London's most popular Musical Directors, Conductors and Singing Teachers. He has been the Musical Director for many productions and concerts here in London as well as around the country.  He has worked with people such as John Wilson, Simon Lee, Kristin Chenoweth, The Royal Northern Sinfonia and the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, amongst many others. He has now recently composed Perfectly Ordinary alongside his writer Matthew Rankcom that received 4* and 5* reviews.

His passion for Music and Musical Theatre translates to many different areas, including teaching as well as direction and accompanying. Having originally taken up the role of BTEC Musical Director and singing teacher at London’s leading Musical Theatre Training provider, ArtsEd, he now continues to get the best out of students, undergraduates and current working professionals as a freelance MD.  

A keen and accomplished pianist and arranger, Joe also can be found writing vocal arrangements for ensembles, orchestral arrangements and piano arrangements for London Cabaret’s, Productions and Musical Theatre Institutions.

Being the composer of the musical, “Perfectly Ordinary”, which will debut in 2018, he somehow finds the time to compose and write music as well as perform and teach.

Joe is about to also start taking lessons with non other that John Wilson of the John Wilson Orchestra to enhance and learn even more about the art of conducting.  Along with singing, teaching, playing and performing, conducting is something Joe feels very passionately about and is looking forward to looking forward o learning even more about the artform form a true master of the podium

"Perfectly Ordinary" New Musical - Joe Wilson Composer - Sell Out Run!

Joe was recently involved in a sell out run of his own musical "Perfectly Ordinary" for which he wrote the music, with his friend and co-writer Matthew Rankcom taking charge of the lyrics and libretto.  The evenings of the run quickly SOLD OUT so a matinee was added to accommodate more ticket sales.  After the Guildford Fringe run in July, talks and pitching have begun to get the work into a fringe theatre in Central London.  Please visit the page "Perfectly Ordinary" for more information and demo recordings.

Musical Director for Kristin Chenoweth’s Choir at London Palladium


Joe was thrilled to be asked to compile a choir for Kristin Chenoweth’s most recent London performance at the London Palladium.  Ensuring the choir were professionally ready for Kristin’s arrival, they accompanied her and her Musical Director Michael Orland (testimonial on website) to a sell-out performance at the Palladium.

Joe's own musical "Perfectly Ordinary" was chosen out of many to be showcased at the Arts Theatre in Leicester Square.  This was a great opportunity not only for his material to be performed in the West End, but also as a good promotion tool ready for it's UK premiere at the Guildford Fringe (more info on "Perfectly Ordinary" page.




Workshop with David Charles - Abell

Joe recently had the pleasure of work shopping and accompanying the world renowned Maestro David Charles-Abell, who is one of the leading conductor of works by Sondheim, Bernstein etc.  He accompanying him as he worked with ArtsEd Students on classic Sondheim repertoire.  David commented on Joe's ability to adapt and be versatile to his conducting whilst accompanying. 


Accompanist for Various Cabarets


Joe not only MD's productions but is a keen accompanist of solo cabarets.  He loves the intimate atmosphere and welcomes the chance to be a lone with a voice and a piano.  For instance, he recently accompanied two contestants from "The Voice" and said " I wish more singers were brave enough to sing with only a piano during performance, you can really connect to one another"

Joe was recently involved in a concert version of Leonard Bernstein’s magnificent Candide at Cadogan Hall, involving Rob Houchen, Anna O’Byrne, Lousie Gold and James Dreyfus amongst others.  Rehearsal Accompanist, Ensemble Leader. 


Outstanding Teaching award for Orchestral Conducting and Vocal Arrangements

Joe has been nominated and awarded by a panel of academics/vocational management, a yearly award for Outstanding teaching and orchestral conducting and vocal arrangements.  This was more specifically linked to his creating a full Sondheim/Robert Brown Concert, with brand new ensemble vocal arrangements and orchestrations written by himself.

The above are academic writings Joe is in the process of completing and publishing.  Having had a lot of experience in teaching and conducting/accompanying musical theatre, Joe is always interested in the process of signing, and also the relationship between the orchestra and the singer.
